        Venetian masks not only for carnival

        Even though the Carnival in Venice has fascinated visitors for centuries, Venetian masks were also worn in Venice outside of the carnival season. For example, from before Pentecost until mid-June and from 5 October to 16 December, it was permitted to appear in public with masks in Venice. A Venetian mask and cape was worn to all important events such as banquets or other celebrations of the Serenissima .
